Canvas Login Error

Modified on Tue, Sep 10, 2024 at 6:16 PM

The Issue:

If you're experiencing difficulties logging into Canvas LMS and see a page that doesn’t allow you to proceed, it may be because you're logged into your personal Gmail account. Google often tries to use the account that is currently signed in, which could be causing the problem.

Root Cause:

The issue arises when you are logged into your personal Gmail account. Google automatically tries to use this account to authenticate with Canvas, which may not work if Canvas requires your SFBU email credentials.

Solutions:

Option 1: Use a Separate Profile for Your SFBU Email
  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Create a separate profile specifically for your SFBU email account.
  3. Access Canvas from this profile to avoid conflicts with your personal Gmail account.

Option 2: Sign in to Your SFBU Email First
  1. Log out of your personal Gmail account.
  2. Sign in to your SFBU email account.
  3. Access Canvas and select your SFBU email for authentication.

Option 3: Use Incognito Mode in Google Chrome
  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Launch an incognito window (this prevents Google from automatically signing you in with your personal Gmail).
  3. Access Canvas and log in using your SFBU email.
